After two missteps, the Weezer we all know and love is finally back. Make Believe represents a massive shift in the band's sound, replacing the sugary, lifeless pop of the Green Album and the equally boring modern rock stylings of Maladroit with a dose of Blue Album melodic greatness.
Is it as good as the Blue Album or Pinkerton? Absolutely not. Rivers Cuomo isn't 24 anymore...his songwriting has matured in strange, sometimes frustrating ways, and the slick production still sounds a bit out of place for Weezer. That being said, Make Believe is easily Weezer's best album in nearly a decade, and a surprisingly great effort from a band that most (well, all) fans had given up on. Even Beverly Hills sounds good in the context of the album, and that's quite a feat.
